Ravings of a Mad Man: vol. 5.38
It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid then open it and remove all doubt
-Mark Twain
So as I sit here reflecting about the weekend the Fam and I had I can't help but realize that what we did in 5 days would have taken the Pioneers several months to complete and some of it they couldn't have done.  On Thursday morning Jenny, Gigi and I got into our car and headed south. We were on a road trip to Sedona, Arizona. The reason, marriage, the person getting married Jenny's cousin. So it was planned and the plan was to go the long way. We went east after going south for awhile, you know so we could lose the people that were following us. After awhile we made it to Green River.  I have always told Jenny that in Green River you could get the best Bacon Cheeseburger of your life. So our first stop was Ray's Tavern where we both order the BCB and one of us finished it. Then our next stop was Dead Horse Point, you know some horses died there and junk. Legend has it Cowboys corralled wild horses up there then after they selected their favorites they left the others up there to die. Sad story but the view is amazing so at least we know that the horses had something to beautiful to look at prior to their passing. Now we had originally planned on stopping at the Delicate Arch but Gigi said she didn't the proper hiking attire for the season and so we skipped it. Maybe sometime in the future we will visit the arch and try and make our own license plate. After Moab we drove past Wilson arch and enjoyed it but didn't stop so we didn't get stuck behind the oversized load again. We hustled to Newspaper Rock which may or may not be authentic Indian petro glyphs but none the less it is an impressive piece of art to look at. I am pretty sure I saw Andy Warhol's signature somewhere on the rock. Then we made it to Monticello where we ate at the Lamplight if you are ever in Monticello you need to eat there. Ribs, good and they claim that their chocolate cake is the best but I am not sure what competitions it has been in. I do know that it is a huge piece of cake. Day 2 was full of more excitement we went to the Goosenecks of the San Juan this is another location where the vista is breathtaking. I feel like this vista gives you the best bang for your buck because it is free. Dead Horse point is $10 but still very worth it. Then after the San Juan we went to Monument Valley we ate some Navajo Tacos and drove around the valley. This was also $10 but very worth it. I came up with a slogan that they could use at Monument Valley, they could put it on T-shirts, coffee mugs, and bumper stickers. It would have a picture of the signature formation, the Mittens, and it would say, "I am smitten with these mittens." Then we drove and drove and drove to Flagstaff, Arizona. The next morning we went to the Grand Canyon, what a sight to see. Probably the most beautiful vistas of the entire trip but it was also the most expensive stop on the trip. It is a must see in your lifetime. Oh then we went to a wedding. Day 4 was the most anxious of the days. We stopped at the Hoover Dam to check out the new bridge. The first time we went onto the bridge I am pretty sure I thought it was the end of the world. The winds were high, the people numberless and I was carrying the Little little (Gigi). The guardrail is only 5 feet tall so I was holding her above the rail. I couldn't take it we made about half way which is 880 feet above the Colorado River and I had enough. We turned around so we could go down to the dam. From the dam the bridge is not that scary so after a long cool down walk around the dam we went back up the bridge and this time we took the stroller. We solved one of the problems but there were still people on the bridge with us. But it turns out I was mostly nervous about Gigi plummeting to her death. Then we made to St George this night and day is described below.
Trivia Time: What city is cooler Flagstaff or Sedona?
So I had a nice, potentially comfortable hotel already for us in Saint town because we were informed that Jenny's aunts were staying with her Grandpa which is where we usually stay when visiting the saint. But on Saturday we were told that they were sleeping elsewhere so we could stay with them. Ok it saves us money so it was a good idea. So we changed our plans mid-trip which I always disagree with because when you deviate from a plan something always gets messed up. So we arrived at their house around 9 thinking we could get our stuff out put Gigi to bed and go to sleep ourselves. But this is not what happened. Not only did our plans change but apparently Jenny's aunts plans changed too. They were there not just visiting they were sleeping there. Now I know that most hotels aren't that comfortable and nobody really knows who or what stayed there before you but wouldn't you much rather sleep on a bed then on an air mattress. Shoot I know I would. So we are there just realizing that we will be sleeping on an air mattress and Gigi will be sleeping in the laundry room. This really is okay but not our first option if we had the choice we would have stayed at a hotel but still visited as much as we did. This is okay but we are exhausted and ready to sleep. When we go to pump up our mattress we find out that the pump has not been charged so we have to go to the Walmarts to buy a pump. Jenny and I have learned a valuable lesson if the plans you have made involve elderly people they will need at least 72 hours notice of what is going on. The trip was a success and we enjoyed every aspect of it. There were times when we ornery but for the majority of the time we were very pleasant and easy to be around. There will be pictures on the blog shortly probably by the end of the week.
Have a good week I know I will
